While we may have not been great at keeping in close contact with each other over the years, we are eternally grateful that Simon has a lasting place in our hearts. Past memories give us a glimmer of future hopes.
Simon, may you rest in peace and rise in glory.
Dear Simon, I will be forever grateful for knowing you since my very first steps in research, for your welcoming me in MatRIC and for your wonderful leadership that brought so many of us together there. Thank you. Rest in peace.
Dear Simon, thank you for your contribution in my development as a mathematics education student for your kindness and for many excellent things I learned from you. May your soul rest in peace.
Rest in peace, Prof; Simon Goodchild
But in order to correct the course of Mathematics:
The global Mathematics community must will wake up and begin to reform the course of Mathematics by making it a science free of the illusion and myth of infinity...
I met Simon when I became his minister in 2002. He was a great support and encouragement to me. We discussed whether he should make the move to Norway, which I know he never regretted. After he moved I counted him as one of my most trusted friends. He was thoughtful and considerate. His formative years were influenced by the Crusader movement and the biblical ministry of Revd Alan Stubbs. A perfect English gentleman, he was respected by the children he taught and later by his students and academic colleagues. His world view was in part shaped by his VSO in Malawi. His Christian faith was foundational in his life and he exercised his witness with quiet consistency, often giving time (that most precious gift) to older friends and those who would benefit from his support and friendship. Janet, Michael and I will miss him. I share his confidence that he has gone on to that which is far better and am thankful to God for him.
Dear Simon. We thank you for all the support we've received from you, for meaningful mathematics conversations, and for collaboration through MatRIC. We will remember you as a warm and including person with a unique competence and overview of our professional field.
I was so sad to hear that Mr Goodchild has died. He was my Maths teacher from 1981-1985 and he was an inspiration. I am now a Maths teacher and refer to him in my teaching all the time. It was wonderful also to know that he loved Jesus- he brought Christs kindness to the classroom and modelled integrity. He is now with Jesus in glory. I am so grateful to have known him. The world is a poorer place without him in it.
Dearest Simon thank you for giving me a winderful friendship and most important a blessed christian fellowship.
Enjou the presence of our Lord !I see yoy many years from now!
Dear Simon, I will always remember fondly those times I spent working with you over in Kristiansand. You were so generous to so many people with your time and wisdom and I feel very fortunate to have been able to get to know you. You will always be missed but will never be forgotten. Rest in peace. Michael
